How to use ACTIVELOCK 1.5 in Delphi

ActiveLock 1.5 is a freeware ActiveX component that has excellent features to protect your software. It is an anti-piracy tool which can be used to protect your Delphi applications.

In theory, it can be used in any programming tools that is compatible with ActiveX components.

The ActiveLock 1.5 was developed by Nelson Ferraz.

This text was written based upon a Visual Basic tutorial 'How to use ACTIVELOCK 1.5'.

This tutorial was developed using ActiveLock 1.5 for VB5 (I believe that you can do the same with ActiveLock 1.6 for VB6), and Delphi 5 Enterprise. (I didn't try to use other version than this, but I guess that you can use Delphi 4 with no problems)

Here, I'll try to explain how to use ActiveLock 1.5 on Delphi applications, turning it on Trialware versions. Trialware means that after a certain period of usage your application will cease to function.

I developed a Project trying to show how you can built an application using the ActiveLock 1.5 as a way to avoid the piracy.

Important >>> If you don't have the Visual Basic Run Time files 5 (VBRUN5) installed, you'll need to download this tool. You can find it here . After download, unzip the files to a folder and run the vb5rtsp3.exe to install the VB files on your computer.

Unzip the file to folder of your choice.
Move nslock15vb5.ocx to the windows\system folder.
Register the ActiveLock 1.5 ActiveX component running 'regsvr32 /s C:\Windows\System\nslock15vb5.ocx' from the Start button (figure 1). Or you can use the install.bat file found in the folder that you unzipped the ActiveLock 1.5 files. This file will register and copy the component.

Open Delphi. Choose 'Close All' from the 'File' menu option. Go to the 'Component' menu and choose 'Import ActiveX Control...'. Choose 'ActiveLock 1.5 (VB5 SP3) (Version 3)' from the ActiveX components text box (figure 2). Make sure that TActiveLock is appearing in the Class names text box.

Press the 'Install' button, choose the 'Into new package' tab and write in the 'File name' edit box 'ActiveLockPack' and in the 'Description' write 'ActiveLock 1.5 ActiveX Component' (figure 3) or other description that you wish to give to the 'ActiveLockPack' package.

A message box will appear asking to confirm the built and the installation of the package. Choose 'Yes' (figure 4).

Another message box will appear telling you that the component was successfully installed (figure 5).

Close the window 'Package - ActiveLockPack.dpk' and choose to save the changes. Finished, now you can go to the ActiveX component palette and use it in your applications (figure 6).
